THE WORKS OF MERCY
COLABORATE WITH THE WYD VIDEOS

What?

1.- 90-second video clips that are audiovisual representations of certain aspects of the works of mercy: testimonies about Christian life, simple catechesis, metaphors and analogies from the Bible, etc.

How?

2.- In HD format or DVD (must be high quality so they can be projected on large screens).

When?

3.- The last day to submit a video is June 30, 2011.

What for?

4.- For WYD. Attendance at these events is almost always much greater than expected. In fact, it is estimated that waiting times over the course of the WYD week will reach over 20 hours. To fill this time, there will be performances, testimonies, live connections with other locations throughout the world, and videos played on the screens. Your video could be one of them!

Videos can focus on any aspect having to do with youth, the Pope, the Church, or other World Youth Days. In order to help pilgrims better understand the Christian faith, we’d love to see videos that elaborate on Pope Benedict XVI’s WYD Message (you can download the complete text at http://www.madrid11.com/en/camino/texts-of-the-holy-father/248-mensaje2011 ).

Where?

5.- Submit your video in mp4 format at www.lasobrasdemisericordia.com . Along with your video, you must attach a transfer of rights contract completed and signed (this is available on the website). If you happen to be under 18 years old and your video is selected, you’ll also need to send a parent authorization form expressing your permission it participate in the contest. Audiovisual productions can be sent from anywhere in the world and in any language, as long as the translation of the script into Spanish or English is attached. If your video is selected, we’ll let you know and you’ll have to send it on a DVD with the required quality (HD) by mail to the following address:

Videos de Actos Centrales
Plaza San Juan de la Cruz, 2 b
28003 Madrid (España)

Who gets to vote?

6.- Published videos that meet all the requirements may be voted on at the competition’s website. A “jury” will select the top 5 winners from among the favorites on the site.

Why?

7.- Because it comes from your heart, because it’s an honor to collaborate with WYD, because you want to lend a hand and help others understand what great things can happen at such a large gathering of the world’s youth, because you’d like the Pope to know what matters to you most, because even it takes a little work, you want to help make sure the Pope feels at home at WYD Madrid 2011.

Anything else?

8.- Along with your video in HD format, be sure to send us the signed contract (download it here) that gives WYD the right to use, publish, and reproduce the video. Only one vote per IP address will be accepted and a program will be put in place to prohibit various votes from a single terminal. The organization accepts no legal responsibility for the submitted videos or their content, especially the use of any images or audio taken from other sources.  The individual participants are completely responsible for their productions and any content they choose to include within them. In the event of a conflict, each participant is liable for any claims filed by third parties and will have to answer to the appropriate authorities. The submitted video should be original. The use of submitted videos for other purposes before the jury announces its decision is strictly prohibited. Therefore, videos that have previously been submitted for other contests or exhibitions will not be accepted. The video presented cannot be subject to a contract with any other management, production, or publication entity. The competition organizers reserve the right to refuse potential contracts with producers of the winning videos.

WHY THIS WEBSITE?

We want to use WYD as an opportunity to talk about the Works of Mercy. Every moment is a good moment to think how we can be a better person, and a better Christian: but throughout WYD is an even better moment – through the videos in Youtube, and on websites like this one, on the big screens in Cuatro Vientos, in the Metro in Madrid… Here are 14 examples of how to talk about the Works of Mercy. Send us your videos, with your thoughts or those of your friends. With your help, we will choose 14 and make them available to the whole world. Tell us something, don’t be shy!
