Deus Caritas Est, "God is love", Benedict XVI's first encyclical, as everyone knows, speaks of God's love for mankind; not only the love of God towards all mankind, but also the love that all men and women should have for one another. In order to truly love each person, we have to discover Christ Himself in them.
In fact, in our society there are far more people than we think suffering from hunger. Over a fifth of the world’s population suffers from severe malnutrition. Perhaps we cannot eliminate the hunger of millions of our brothers and sisters all at once – even if we are fighting to eradicate this scourge – but we can help out at the convent in our city, the local soup kitchen, the shelter we know of, and other similar initiatives. It's a matter of seeing Christ in them and sharing the daily bread that God gives us.
